Wix Pricing — Which Plan is Best for Your Business?

Wix is a hugely popular solution for building your own website or online store. But it comes in many flavors, and it can be hard to work out which pricing plan is right for your needs — or spot the hidden costs. So, in this Wix pricing guide we’re going to break each plan down and help you pick the one that’s right for you.

Let’s dive in, with a look at the basic structure of Wix pricing plans.

How Wix structures its pricing plans

Wix divides its plans up into three categories:

  • Website plans
  • Business and eCommerce plans
  • Enterprise plans

The ‘Website’ plans are best used for creating personal websites and brochure sites — i.e., where displaying information, rather than selling items online, is the key priority. Blogs, portfolios, websites for local organizations — that sort of thing.

As their name suggests, the ‘Business and Ecommerce’ plans are better suited to users who wish to create an online store — they all come with selling tools.

And the ‘Enterprise’ offering is aimed at large corporations, offering more custom features related to security, team management, coding and support.

Within each category, you’ll find a range of different plans, each with different features. I’ll look at these in turn in just a moment, but before that, it’s worth pointing out the core Wix features that you’ll find on any plan.

Core Wix features

There are a few things that are common to all Wix plans. On any Wix plan, you can expect to get:

  • a choice of a wide-range of professionally-designed templates
  • access to a content management system — a tool that lets you edit your site content easily and upload files to it
  • a blogging tool
  • hosting — this will vary by plan, but all Wix plans give you server space to store your site on
  • an email marketing tool — all Wix plans let you send 200 e-newsletters per month for free
  • SEO tools — all Wix plans give you access to Wix’s ‘SEO Dashboard’ to help you optimize your site for search engines.

Now, let’s look at all the Wix premium plans in more depth, and discuss their pros and cons.

Important: monthly vs yearly pricing in Wix

The prices shown on Wix’s website (and referenced below) are based on paying upfront for a year’s service (you have a 14 day cooling off period during which you can cancel your plan and get a refund).

Like most other ecommerce platforms, you can also can pay on a monthly basis, but oddly, Wix doesn’t make these prices publicly available – you only see them at the point of purchasing a plan. You can expect a saving of between 13% and 22% by paying annually.

When purchasing a plan, you’ll also get the option to pay upfront for 2 years or 3 years; you’re not restricted to being billed annually or monthly. Subscribing in this way brings even bigger discounts, but you are of course tied into the platform for a much longer period.

Wix Website plans

In the ‘Website Plans’ category, you’ll find four individual plans: ‘Combo,’ ‘Unlimited,’ ‘Pro’ and ‘VIP.’ In USD, these are priced as follows:

Plan nameMonthly price
Combo$16
Unlimited$22
Pro$27
VIP$45

The cheapest of these plans is the ‘Combo’ plan. Let’s take a look at this.

Combo

At $16 per month, the ‘Combo’ plan offers you the cheapest way to get going with Wix.

It gives you:

  • a free domain name for your first year of service (via a free domain voucher)
  • a free SSL certificate
  • 2GB storage (for any images you need to display on your site or files that you want to let users download from it)
  • the ability to upload 30 minutes of video content to your site (which can then be streamed, bought or rented by your visitors)
  • 24/7 customer support delivered by email, live chat or phone (with the availability of each support channel varying by country / language)
  • 2GB bandwidth per month (this being the amount of data your users can download from your site each month).

Is the Wix Combo plan right for me?

The Wix Combo plan is suitable for users who just need a personal website or portfolio, or a small business that needs a basic website without a store. The main disadvantage of the plan is the bandwidth limit: if you are likely to have a lot of visitors, and especially if those visitors are going to be downloading large files, then the Wix Combo plan is not going to be a great fit for you.

A selection of templates that you can use for small business applications
The ‘Combo’ plan is a good choice if you’re building a website for a small business where conveying information, rather than selling products, is the key aim.

(To put the 2GB bandwidth figure in context, if your website pages are typically 1MB in size, this means that a Wix Combo plan will facilitate 2,000 visitors each month).

Unlimited

Next up we have the $22 per month ‘Wix Unlimited’ plan. This main differences between this and the ‘Combo’ plan are:

  • Bandwidth: this is unlimited
  • Storage: you get 5GB rather than 2GB
  • Video storage: you get 1 hour rather than 30 minutes

Additionally, you get the following extra features:

  • Ad vouchers: $600 to spend on online ads (via Google and Bing)
  • Wix’s Site Booster app — one year’s access to a directory submission tool
  • Wix’s Visitor Analytics app — one year’s access to a website statistics dashboard

Is the Wix Unlimited plan right for me?

The main benefit that the ‘Wix Unlimited’ plan brings to users over the ‘Combo’ plan is the unlimited bandwidth and the ad vouchers.

With this plan, you don’t need to worry about your site falling over if you exceed a certain number of visitors. And the ad vouchers will come in handy for generating new visitors in the first place.

Pro

The $27 per month ‘Pro’ plan takes things up a notch again on the storage and video hours and and bundled app front. With this plan you get:

  • 50GB storage
  • 2 video hours.

And, in terms of apps and other extras, you get the following key features that are not included on the cheaper ‘Website’ plans:

  • 1 year’s free access to an events calendar app (this lets you connect external calendars to your Wix site and display events from it on your site)
  • access to a professional logo designing tool
  • 40+ social media versions of your logo.

Is the Wix Pro plan right for me?

To be honest, there’s not really a huge difference between the ‘Wix Pro’ and the ‘Wix Unlimited’ plans. Unless you think you could do with the extra video hours, or desperately need the calendar app (which is only free for one year anyway), there’s not a massive argument for upgrading to this plan.

The 'video hours' feature
Additional Wix video hours is one of the key differences between the ‘Pro’ and ‘Unlimited’ plans

As for logo designing and social media versions of your logo, these are potentially useful, but as there are so many free logo designing tools available elsewhere — not least the brilliant Canva — I’m not sure if it’s really worth upgrading for either.

All that said, the price differential between the ‘Pro’ and ‘Unlimited’ plans is fairly small — just $5 – so if you do think you’ll need the extra features it brings to the table, you won’t be paying a huge amount extra each month for them.

You can try out the Wix Pro plan for free here.

VIP

The $45 per month ‘Wix VIP’ plan is considerably more generous than all the other ‘Website’ plans when it comes to three things: storage space, video hours and customer care.

You get:

  • 100GB storage space
  • 5 video hours
  • Faster responses to customer support queries.

The other features are all identical to the ‘Pro’ plan.

Is the Wix VIP plan right for me?

The ‘Wix VIP’ plan is best for users who need a lot of space for files or video, or feel that they’re really going to need quick answers to support queries.

So which Wix ‘Website’ plan offers the best value for money?

Of all the ‘Website’ plans discussed above, our favourite is the ‘Unlimited’ plan. If you’re considering this range of Wix plans in the first place, your needs are probably quite simple, and this plan will tick all the main boxes for you at a reasonably low price.

The ‘Combo’ plan is also worthy of serious consideration if you are only interested in having a simple online presence that will be accessed by a small number of visitors each month.

Ok, so we’ve looked at all the basic Wix plans now — the ones that let you create simple websites. But what about building online stores with Wix? To do that, you’ll need one of their ‘Business and Ecommerce plans.’

Let’s take a look at those.

Wix Business and Ecommerce plans

The ‘Wix Business and Ecommerce’ plans are designed for users who wish to build an online store. They are priced as follows:

Plan nameMonthly price
Business Basic$27
Business Unlimited$32
Business Basic$59

All these plans give you:

  • an online store builder that lets you sell an unlimited number of products
  • an abandoned cart saver tool
  • the option to sell your products on social media.

But they differ in quite a lot of other respects. Let’s go through each of them now to find out how.

Business Basic

At $27 per month, the ‘Business Basic’ plan is the cheapest Wix plan that lets you create an online store. It comes with the following core features:

  • secure payment processing via a large range of payment gateways
  • customer account creation
  • 50GB storage
  • 5 video hours
  • $600 ad vouchers.

As the name suggests, this plan is quite basic really — it’s fine if you need to accept online payments or sell a few items every now and again, but there are some key omissions that make it unsuitable for more professional merchants.

Adding products
Adding products in Wix

For example, you won’t find any dropshipping features or tax calculation tools on this plan, and it doesn’t let you integrate your store with popular online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay.

Is the Wix Business Basic plan for me?

If you run a blog or portfolio and occasionally sell products on the side, the ‘Business Basic’ plan will probably be fine for you. But if your aim is to set up a profesional ecommerce store, then the ‘Business VIP’ or ‘Business Unlimited’ plans are better options.

You can try the ‘Business Basic’ plan for free here.

Business Unlimited

At $32 per month, the ‘Business Unlimited’ plan is more generous than the ‘Business Basic’ plan when it comes to storage and video hours (giving you 100GB and 10 hours respectively).

But more importantly, it unlocks several key ecommerce features, namely:

  • The option to sell subscriptions
  • The ability to display prices in multiple currencies
  • Automatic tax calculation
  • Advanced shipping (shipping label printing, end-to-end order fulfilment and the option to connect shipping apps to your store).
  • The option to sell your products not just in your Wix store but on big online marketplaces too (Amazon, Ebay etc.)
  • Dropshipping functionality
  • A ratings and reviews tool

There are, however, some key limits to be aware of on this plan:

  • You can only process 100 transactions per month with the automated sales tax tool (Avalara)
  • The dropshipping feature (powered by Modalyst) only lets you list 250 products
  • The number of user reviews per month is capped at 1,000.

Of these limits, the most significant is the cap on automatic tax calculations — it will render this plan a bit redundant for any users who sell large numbers of products every month in a lot of jurisdictions with different tax rates.

Sales tax limits in Wix
Watch out for the automated sales tax limits in Wix

Is ‘Business Unlimited’ right for me?

Business Unlimited is a good choice for users who make a small number of online sales each month (or those who want to sell subscriptions) but need to access more advanced shipping and tax calculation options. Merchants who wish to sell at scale will need to go for the ‘Business VIP’ plan, however.

You can try the ‘Business Unlimited’ plan for free here.

Business VIP

The last plan in the ‘Business and Ecommerce’ plan lineup is Wix’s ‘Business VIP’ offering.

This is the only Wix plan aimed at small businesses that gives you an unlimited amount of storage space and video hours.

The key differences between this plan and the ‘Business Unlimited’ one boil down to limits for automated sales tax transactions, dropshipping and product reviews.

You get…

  • 500 automatic tax calculation transactions per month
  • the ability to create customized reports for your store
  • the option to dropship an unlimited number of products per month
  • a 3,000-per month reviews limit.

(You also get priority VIP support — faster turnaround times on queries.)

These increased limits definitely make the ‘Business VIP’ plan a much better option for most merchants than the other two ecommerce plans.

Is the ‘Business VIP’ plan right for me?

The ‘Business VIP’ plan is the best plan for any Wix user who is serious about dropshipping or wants to build a high-traffic, high-revenue store.

You can try the ‘Business VIP’ plan for free here.

So what’s the best Wix ‘Business and Ecommerce’ plan?

For me, if you’re serious about ecommerce, the ‘Business VIP’ Wix plan is definitely the main one to consider seriously. The other two plans can work in certain contexts, but if you’ve got grand ambitions for dropshipping, or anticipate having a large number of sales of your products from your site, then the Business VIP plan is by far the best choice.

Wix Enterprise

So far, the Wix plans I’ve covered are those that are aimed mainly at a ‘small business owner’ market.

But there’s another version of Wix that targets a more corporate audience — the suitably named ‘Wix Enterprise.’

Some of the key 'Wix Enterprise' features
Some of the key ‘Wix Enterprise’ features

Unlike the other Wix plans, this doesn’t come with a fixed price tag — you have to negotiate a custom price with Wix based on your requirements.

(But you can expect to pay at least $500 per month to use it.)

With Wix Enterprise, you can avail of…

  • advanced controls over user settings
  • access to Wix code and APIs
  • more hand-holding
  • advanced security features
  • custom storage
  • more flexible billing settings.

Most users won’t need to worry about this plan — it really is for large corporations only.

What about the free Wix plan?

Throughout this article we’ve discussed the pricing for Wix’s premium plans. However, it should be noted that you can actually use Wix entirely for free.

There are two main catches with the free plan that Wix offers though:

  • Websites built with it feature very prominent adverts for Wix.
  • You can’t map a custom domain using this plan (yoursitename.com etc.).

Additionally, the feature set for the free plans is rather limited, as the table below highlights:

FeatureFree planPremium plans
Domain mappingNot availableAvailable
Wix adsProminentAd free
Storage500MB2GB – Unlimited
Bandwidth500MB2GB — Unlimited
Ecommerce featuresNoneAvailable on Business and Ecommerce plans
Google AnalyticsNot supportedSupported

Despite its limitations, the Wix free plan can work very well in certain contexts. If you need to create a simple website for a birthday party, local event or anything else where there isn’t a budget for web design, then the Wix free plan offers a handy way to do this.

It also provides a very good way to try the platform out before committing to a paid-for plan.

You can try the Wix free plan here.

Wix apps and email marketing add-on

It’s important to remember that you can make your Wix account do more thanks to a variety of available add-ons.

First, there’s the Wix App Market to consider. This contains around 545 apps and integrations that you can incorporate into your Wix website or store. These start from just a few dollars a month but can get quite expensive (in some cases actually exceeding the monthly cost of your Wix plan) — it really depends on the app you’re using.

The Wix app store
The Wix app store

Then, there’s Wix’s email marketing plans (previously known as ‘Ascend’). These paid plans let you send between 500 and 1 million emails per month, depending on the plan chosen (the free version lets you send 200 newsletters per month).

The pricing for Wix’s email marketing plans isn’t available on the Wix website: you only get to see it when you’re logged into your account and go to upgrade to an Ascend plan.

During our testing, we encountered the following pricing information:

Wix email marketing planPriceMonthly Limits
Essentials$10 per month500 emails per month
Core$24 per month5,000 emails per month
Advanced$49 per month1,000,000 emails per month

All of Wix’s email marketing plans give you access to a full set of email automation features. These automations let you define rules (or ‘triggers’) that send emails when certain conditions are met.

In terms of other differences between Wix’s email marketing plans, emails sent on the ‘Core’ and ‘Advanced’ plans are automatically sent from your own custom domain; whereas emails sent on the cheaper ‘Essentials’ plan are sent from a Wix URL.

Summing up: the best-value Wix plans

I hope our guide to Wix’s pricing has helped you make more sense of all the options available to you!

To sum up, we feel that three of the Wix plans are the best value ones, and worthy of particular attention:

  • Wix Free – this is a great plan for trying the platform out or creating simple free sites for family and community events.
  • Wix Unlimited — this is the best-value premium plan for creating simple brochure-style sites where conveying information (not ecommerce) is the main priority.
  • Business VIP – this is by far the best choice for anyone who wants to create an online store.

Alternatives to Wix

Wix isn’t the only option for creating a website or online store — there are lots of other website builders to choose from!

If you’re thinking of building an information-based website (i.e., you’re not fussed about being able to sell anything) then Squarespace is a really good alternative website builder. It features beautiful templates, an elegant content management system and super mobile-friendly designs. Check out our Squarespace video review below or read our Squarespace vs Wix comparison to see how it shapes up against Wix.

For ecommerce applications, we’d also recommend BigCommerce or Shopify, two feature-packed online store builders. Their content management options are less extensive than Wix’s but their selling tools are more extensive.

Lots of good information here. I see so many newbie web designers heading over to WIX without a true understanding of their pricing. I will share this with anyone I see who is looking to try WIX out.
